Jessica Phyllis Lange (born April 20, 1949) is an American actress who has worked in film, theatre and television. Lange has received six Academy Award nominations, winning two, and twelve Golden Globe nominations, winning five. She has also been awarded the Donostia Award from the San Sebastián International Film Festival, a Gala Tribute from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, a Theater World Award, and a Crystal Award, amongst several other awards, nominations and tributes. Lange was born in Cloquet, Minnesota on April 20, 1949. The two married, and Lange dropped out of university in favor of travelling with Grande throughout the United States, both of them living the “bohemian life” out of a “beat-up van” throughout the late 1960s. Despite being a box office hit, the film and her performance were panned by most film critics and Hollywood.

Jessica Phyllis Lange (born April 20, 1949) is an American actress who has worked in film, theatre and television. Lange received three more nominations for Country (1984), Sweet Dreams (1985), and Music Box (1989) before being nominated a sixth time and winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as a manic depressive in Blue Sky (1994). She then relocated to Paris, France, where their relationship would eventually end. in 1973, Lange returned to New York to “witness Nixon get impeached”. Lange made her professional film debut in 1976′s King Kong.

Her maternal grandparents were of Finnish descent, while her paternal grandparents were German and Dutch. in 1976, Dino De Laurentiis cast her in his film motion picture remake of King Kong, which both started and almost ended her career. The unfavorable reviews were devastating but critics took notice with her impressive turn in Bob Rafelson’s remake of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981). Her performance in her next film, Frances (1982), in which she portrayed actress Frances Farmer, was highly lauded and earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She continued giving impressive performances through the 1980s and 1990s in films such as Sweet Dreams (1985) (playing country/western singer Patsy Cline), Crimes of the Heart co-starring with Diane Keaton and Sissy Spacek, along with Sam Sheppard (1986), Music Box (1989), Men Don’t Leave (1990), and Blue Sky (1994), directed by Tony Richardson, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Since 2000, Lange has mostly appeared in supporting roles on screen. in 2006, she appeared as part of the ensemble cast of Kathy Bates and Joan Allen in Bonneville. Her performance earned her an Emmy Award. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). She has three children, Alexandra (born 1981) from her relationship with dancer/actor Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Hannah Jane (born 1985) and Samuel Walker (born 1987) with Shepard.
